As parents we often wish for clear directions on how to protect our daughters. If only we knew when to say no, could whisper in their ear when the temptation arises, and keep the bad away.
As parents, we’ve been there.
I’m a parent of three daughters 24, 15 and 9 years old. I was a daughter many years ago.
Woman of Worth Mentoring Ministries began when my mentor passed away from cancer. I was an adult when she passed away, but she made a difference in my childhood.
It was a clear calling in my heart to continue her legacy. I was sitting at my kitchen table reading the program from her funeral and praying. God whispered. That was over 13 years ago. One of the very first books the original group studied was And The Bride Wore White.
And the Bride Wore White rings out a message that PURITY IS A PROCESS. Purity is a lifelong process filled with grace and truth.
I made a profession of faith to follow Jesus as a little girl. Jesus and I talked to each other constantly. The process of becoming a young lady was clouded with “happenings”—things that happen in a family because sin exists in the world and in us. I spent approximately 13 years seeking worth and covering up my shame. I tried anything to figure out who or what would call me worthy—good enough.
The women who lead woman of worth mentoring ministries desire deeply to mentor young girls in the process of becoming Godly women. To teach them that they are worth FAR more than rubies and God has a plan for them. You’ll never find it in the world.
I look back over the years, and as an older woman, wonder what would have made the difference in my life? Couldn't we all make a list? We would have a lot of similarities. My chest aches as I write this and I’m crying. Wouldn't we give anything to keep our precious girls from the clutches of the world and the enemy’s wooing. We want that little girl twirling around in her princess dress to remain protected and pure.
I write the next few sentences with a revelation that came to me this time around reading this book. Purity is a process that is not over until we reach our eternal home with Jesus. It’s a journey. Everyone’s journey is different, and God’s grace and love is incomprehensible. I am a little girl, a grown woman, an elderly grandmother. I am all these things in my lifetime, and Jesus’ grace and His work is not finished until He calls me home. I came back to Jesus because of women who never gave up on me, believed in me, and most importantly the women who kept sharing that Jesus loves me and calls me worthy. Jesus never left me. He never will. I still have women in my life who mentor me.
Purity is a process.
In this moment and time, as the parent of your beautiful daughter, view her in all the stages of her life and know that God’s Work is His Work—He has a plan for her. Think of your purity. Where are you in the process with Jesus? Who mentors you?
Purity truly is a process. You are a huge part of that process right now as you set healthy boundaries, teach them how to guard their hearts, and create a home that loves Jesus. But you can never love your girl like Jesus loves her. He died for her, adores her, has already given her a purpose.
His amazing Grace overwhelms me. I have a celebration story, as the book calls them, of grace. One day I will see Jesus face to face. I will be dressed in white at the wedding feast of His bride—the church. And this bride will wear white!
In the waiting, I’m in the process of purity—refining, being molded and shaped, just like our precious daughters.
